1. Policy Statement

APCC is committed to ensuring that all Young People* who play cricket have a safe and positive experience. APCC does not specifically run a Young People team or section; however, it acknowledges that Young People are involved in the activities or games within the Club. APCC will take a pro-active approach to the provision and implementation of a Child Welfare Policy & Procedure, consistent with the requirements laid down by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

APCC is committed to developing and implementing policies, procedures and practices which ensure that everyone knows and accepts their responsibility in relation to a Duty of Care for Young People.

• APCC shall follow and comply with the ECB Guidance, Polices and Guidelines on the welfare of Young People in cricket.

• APCC acknowledges that Parents/Guardians/Carers play a large role in promoting and ensuring that their children have a safe and positive experience through close involvement with the club.

2. Underpinning Principles

All Young People playing within our Club environment regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability, have the right to be protected.

Adults working and playing with APCC will provide a safe, positive and fun cricketing experience for Young People.

Adults, Volunteers, Coaches, Umpires and Scorers and Players will understand and be supported in their role and responsibility with regard to the Duty of Care for Young People.

APCC shall abide to the Principles of Good Practice laid down by the ECB.

The Club shall appoint a Child Welfare Officer (CWO) to the Committee, who is responsible for ensuring the specifics of the Policy and Procedure are met and to act as first point of contact for any issues, concerns or allegations.

The CWO shall work within the bounds of absolute confidentiality of any information provided by individuals for the purposes of checks. Such information shall only be passed to the League Child Welfare Officer as required. The CWO shall work within the requirements of the UK Data Protection Act 1998.

APCC shall observe due diligence and adherence to the Club Policy and Procedure when Young Persons play in away matches for APCC. Club representatives should assume that the ‘away’ club does not have Safe Practices in place unless confirmed by the CWO.
